You Want Overnight Success? The Secret Is Consistency

Did you ever manage to get overnight success?

No? Me neither. Why? Because it doesn’t exist.

I really wish that there is something like an overnight success because I’m impatient and usually I want everything now and finished.

What is the secret behind it?

Why are those people successful and why does it look like an overnight success? Because you don’t see the hard work behind it which took them years to get to where they are now.

We usually don’t see people starting on day 1, but those that already made it and are at day 10573. We are then depressed and feel like a failure because we don’t have success on day 1.

I have the same feeling.

So what is the secret? Do you already know it?

It’s consistency.

Consistency in showing up every day and doing the work that needs to be done to get to where you want to be.

You will not get fit after working out once. You have to do it every day (with breaks of course) for a longer time to see results. The same is working for success in business or whatever you want to achieve.

What if there is still no success after 20 days?

Usually people at some point quit because they don’t see any result. That’s why so many New years resolutions fail.

And creating a habit and sticking to it needs at least 20 days to consistently do it (for some people less and for some more). Just stick to it!

I know the feeling of waiting impatiently for success. I hate that feeling. But you have to go through that pain to get to your success, your goal.

By being consistent you will improve yourself and you will get better at it and also in life. Your life will improve with every step because you have the feeling of doing something meaningful every day.

The thought that is bothering me the most

The thought that is bothering me the most is that you should do it every day forever. Consistency doesn’t do breaks. You will have to continue doing it until you get to the point of achieving your goal. After that? You have to continue showing up and doing the work because else you will go back again.

Life is lifelong learning. If you stop, you are not just stopping but you are going backward.

Are you thinking now that life is a long time? Then you have to think if you want to do the stuff you want to achieve your whole life. Maybe the thing you are doing right now is not something you want to continue doing.

Find something you want to do your whole life. Then it doesn’t feel like work and you will also be more motivated.

But there is also another way around

For example, I never wanted to be a writer or an online writer. Why? Because I didn’t like it at school and I thought (or my teacher thought) that I’m not good at it. And why should I continue doing something that I’m not good at?

By continuing my writing I’ve grown to like it and in the meantime, I think I got pretty good at it. It doesn’t mean that I still make mistakes, but I like writing about my thoughts and the things I want to tell you about.

 So how should you start?

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going. – Jim Rohn

Small steps. Consistency and success start with tiny habits which grow into big changes. Stop making excuses and you are motivated so start with small habits. For example, if you want to get fitter and healthier: start drinking one cup of coffee less each day. Or you just eat one fruit more. Or you start with 5 minutes of light stretching or walking. And then you slightly improve. 1% improvement each day is enough.

A really good book for that is ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear. It gives you a great direction on how to start with new habits.
